What does "varveled" mean?
Varveled: Having varvels, or rings. [Written also varvelled, and vervelled.] Note: In heraldry, when the jesses attached to the legs of hawks hang loose, or have pendent ends with rings at the tips, the blazon is a hawk (or a hawk's leg) jessed and varveled.
