What does "hypothesis" mean?
Hypothesis: (Natural Science) A tentative theory or supposition provisionally adopted to explain certain facts, and to guide in the investigation of others; hence, frequently called a working hypothesis. See Theory. Nebular hypothesis. See under Nebular.
