What does "geranium" mean?

Geranium: (Floriculture) A cultivated pelargonium. Note: Many plants referred to the genus Geranium by the earlier botanists are now separated from it under the name of Pelargonium, which includes all the commonly cultivated "geraniums", mostly natives of South Africa.
